A co-ed Residential Reentry Center serving the Federal Bureau of Prisons and U.S. Probation/Pretrial since 1988.
Independence House South Federal has been operating as a Residential Reentry Center since 1988. Independence House is a co-ed program contracted through the Federal Government to provide services to the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the United States Probation/Pretrial Dept. The facility is zoned for 105 offenders and provides around the clock offender accountability.
We are in compliance with state and federal standards in the staffing of the program. All staff is appropriately trained in dealing with a wide array of offender issues. BOP offenders placed at the program are transitioned directly from a Federal Institution and serve on average of 60 to 180 days. Once the offender successfully completes the program and has a stable residence, the offender begins his/her term of supervision.
The goal of the program is the successful reintegration of the offender into the community. Inmates are required to obtain employment. They are also encouraged to take passes to attend recreational activities, participate in community service, attend church and receive visitation from family members.
The program is program plan focused and attempts to address the individual needs of every offender in the program. The staff utilize individualized intake plans to assist the offender in obtaining employment, attending appropriate treatment and developing a stable release plan. The Independence House provides a wide range of services for the residents of the program.
Some inmates, once they qualify, can participate in the Home Confinement Program. Clients are monitored by GPS at their home until their scheduled release date.
Independence House recognizes that offender accountability is a very important part of the programming of the offender as well as the safety of the community. We currently utilize an electronic monitoring program for our offenders on the final phase of transition to the community and also have GPS monitoring system in place.
The location of the program is in close proximity to all of the major services that the offender requires. Access to the major bus lines, additional laundry services and numerous stores are walking distance from the program. The offenders have access to a nearby recreation center.
Independence House South Federal has established a very good rapport with the surrounding community. We aim to make offender accountability our number one priority.
